Earring experiment

Been dabbling with the idea of making matching earrings to go with my necklaces and bracelets. My old high school friend had requested a pair of simple earrings to match the necklace she bought from me. nothing too fancy but i still like the idea of making a matching set. I asked her to snag a photo of them for me since I forgot to before I sent them out.

I've also been practicing making my own findings and earrings from wire and metals. This is what I have so far for my first practice round.

Having a blast playing with them and of course will be incorporating more hand made polymer beads. <3 k

Journey through a box of treasures: part 3

Still trekking along through the box! I've got a smaller batch of goodies this time, which hopefully will give me a chance to get up to date on listing things.

If you've missed previous parts of the journey:
part one
part two

Here's the third batch of things from the box:

And from them, I made:

I used the popsicle sticks as a template, the translucent clay as a base, and everything else for layers and layers of patterns and textures. I love the results.

Journey through a box of treasures: part 2

I'm still completely excited about this project, so I've already managed a whole new batch of creations. I don't expect that I'll be able to keep up at this pace for too long, but it does feel quite nice to have a large batch off accomplishments at the end of the day.

So, here's the second group of items I've excavated from the box.

It's rainy today, so I wasn't able to get any kind of proper photos, but I did my best. This also means none of my new creations will be listed in the shop until weather permits some natural lighting.

First, here's a better look at the earring I found that I had made years ago. They're just plastic toys with eyelets screwed into them, so I don't think I'll be putting them up for sale, but I will be taking credit for them in the tally of finished products from this box. I may also offer them as free gifts to our blog followers and/or facebook fans. We'll see.

And, here are the things I made today-

The main focus was on earrings today. Our shop is full of necklaces and rings, but low on bracelets and earrings, so it works out well that I found a bunch of ear wires in the box. The far left pair is made of the flamingo beads I found, the 4 pairs in the middle are polymer clay with the metallic accenting paste I found, and the far right pair is made of the clay I found, which was so hard to work with after having sat in the closet for years that I ended up tossing most of it.

I started making a pair of beaded earrings with the seed beads I found, and it was going okay, but I was hating every second of it. My stubby fingers don't get along well with beads that small. So, I scrapped this pair.

The lion ring here is made out of the difficult clay I found. I used the stencil brush to stipple a light texture into the clay. For the pig ring I used the stencil brush with paint to antique it.

The weather report says that there will be some sun tomorrow, so I'll get better photos tomorrow and most of these items should be available in the shop throughout the week. The flamingo earrings and the pig ring are mine, though ;)

The running tally for creations from the box is:

1 bracelet
1 necklace
6 rings
11 pairs of earrings

Journey through a box of treasures: part 1

When I was moved into my current residence, a box of miscellaneous art and crafting supplies somehow got tucked into the back of my closet and forgotten about....for 5 years. Upon discovering it I realized there's a ton of jewelry making possibilities in there. So, I'm going to do a little self-challenge to excavate my way through it and see how many creations can come from it, all the while documenting the adventure here.

So, here's the first batch of treasures from the box:

And here are my creations:

I used the burgundy glass beads and the mix of brownish beads, along with some handmade polymer clay beads leftover from an earlier necklace and some new elephant charms I had been dying to use to make this funky necklace. It's available at our shop here.

The black buttons I found made perfect bases for another batch of button stack rings (I've flooded the shop with them lately). The little heart charm on the pink ring is snagged off that paper doll bookmark.

I used the spiral stamp to texture the polymer clay beads on this bracelet and strung them along with some more beads from the brownish mix on the stretch cord I found. This is definitely my favorite creation out of the batch. It looks really cool on.

So, the current tally is:
1 bracelet
1 necklace
4 rings

Stay tuned!
